Master of Arts in Education major in Basic Education Teaching Mathematics
The program aims to prepare its graduates for teaching mathematics who are equipped with competencies in foundational theories in education. The program will develop the competencies of its graduates in both knowledge and pedagogy in teaching mathematics in response to the K12 basic educational reforms in the country.
The core courses are grounded in professional practice that will enable the students to develop analytical skills through the basic rigors of research; and hence, help them create models and approaches in teaching and learning that will improve student achievement and engagement in mathematics. Alongside the core courses, the major courses will enable the graduates to advance their skills and competencies as a teacher teaching the content knowledge in mathematics.
The program emphasizes the training of a sui generis graduate who can assume administrative or supervisory roles in teaching mathematics. As a transformational educational leader imbued with Ignatian Spirituality, the graduates are responsible for helping transform the school into an inclusive community with diverse backgrounds and cultures.
